A Side Project?
I've always been intrigued by the idea of starting a tribute band. Problem is, I've never been disciplined enough to learn a band's entire oeuvre. (Okay, in Grade Ten I may have been able to play all of Led Zeppelin II ... but in retrospect I'd say that my versions of the songs weren't very convincing.) During our rock-out-in-our-parent's-basement phase, my brother and I used to joke about forming a Rush/Zeppelin cover band called "Ged Zeppelin" (or Van Halen: "Ed Zeppelin"; or Nugent: "Ted Zeppelin"; etc.).
After watching this cool performance by Television on Later with Jools Holland, I thought it would be fun to form a hybrid tribute band that played the songs of Television and of Golden Earring.
It would be called Marquee Moontan.

Welcome to the new-and-improved official website for the music of Derek Fairbridge. The launch of this site marks the release of Derek's second album, Eleven-Legged Race, an album that answers the musical question: What would it sound like if Joni Mitchell, Jim O'Rourke and Led Zeppelin held a potluck dinner party at Burt Bacharach's house and drank a little too much wine?
